DANCE RECITAL

PUPILS OF MISS STIMPSON One of the most outstanding of juvenile performances was witnessed by a large audience at the Opera House on Tuesday night. The performance was the fourth annual dance recital by the pupils of Miss Berna Stimpson, and reflected great credit on those responsible. An added attraction was the presentation of two medals donated by an anonymous donor to the best performer, and to the most improved performer since Miss Stimpson’s last concert. This caused great competition among the children. The competition resulted in Daniel Davey receiving the medal for the best performance and Betty Andrews the medal for the most improved performer. Both these decisions proved pupular with the audience and other performers. All the pupils did very well, and showed great promise. Some of the most outstanding items were the group work by Carterton Pupils, a spirited Irish Jig by Daniel Davey; skipping dance, Betty Andrews; military song and dance, Cathie Whyte; clog dance, Nancie Stewart; Dutch dance, Josephine and Margaret Andrews; rhythm routine tap, Thelma Hood; Russian dance, Norma Stains; tap dance duo, Maureen Cruickshank and Lola Cretney; sailor’s hornpipe, Marjorie Emerson; tap dance, Betty Adlam; routine tap, Miss Nina West; character song, Grace Bradbury and Irish jig quartette, Masterton pupils. Two vocal solos by Miss Alma Davey, and two mouth organ solos by Mr Colin Reid were warmly applauded. The performance drew to a close with a grand march of all the performers and the presentation of numerous gifts. Miss Stimpson has been requested to repeat the concert in aid of the Labour Party campaign funds.
