PLUNKET SOCIETY

MEETING OF MASTERTON BRANCH The monthly meeting of the Masterton branch of the Plunket Society, was held yesterday afternoon. The president (Mrs J. Caselberg) occupied the chair. Others present were Mesdames D. Donald, J. V. Gordon, N. M. Irwin, H. H. Daniell, T. Jordan, J. M. James, T. F. Watson, W. A. Michael, T. Wardell and A. Donald (Kopuaranga). Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames H. Morrison, R. Beetham, J. Broad, C. Ericson, E. Sortain Smith, E. G. Eton, A. H. Falloon, J. M. Coradine and R. Miller (Kopuaranga). The nurse’s report for June stated: Visits to office, adults, 373; babies, 335; older children, 67; telephone 123. Visits to homes: new cases, 22; old cases, 190. New cases for month (town), 13; total number of babies on books, 450; older children, 353. New cases for month, town and country, 13. Outstations: Mauriceville, East and West, and Kopuaranga, 2 visits; Hastwells, 1 visit; visits to homes, 16.; Tinui, Annedale, Mangapakeha and Homewood, 1 visit; Whareama and Langdale, 2 visits; visits to homes, 14. Pre-natal section: total visits 14.

A vote of sympathy was passed with Mrs S. Fletcher on the death of her brother.

Accounts amounting to £63 8s 4d were passed. I Grateful thanks were expressed to the Borough Council for its intimation that a grant of £5O had been made to the funds of the Masterton branch, also to the Trust Lands Trust for a grant of £25. A letter was received from the Tinui sub-branch enclosing an amount of £5O, being £3O as its quota towards the nurses’ salary and travelling expenses, and £2O towards the purchase of the new car. A circular was received from the Dominion Council advising that Dr E. H. Williams, senior honorary physician to the Truby King Harris Hospital, Dunedin, had been appointed temporary Medical Adviser to the council. The Director-General of Health, wrote requesting contributions to the Dr Ada Paterson Memorial Fund.

A special vote of thanks was passed to Mrs M. Reynolds (aged 100), for the gift of children’s garments, beautifully sewn by herself. Thanks for gifts of infants’ clothing, etc., are due to the following: Mesdames C. A. Cameron, Lee, M. Caselberg, J. Broad, Maddison, T. Massey, R. D. Cameron, Ramsden, McMillan and Wilton. ,
