Miss Tui Anderson, of Carterton, is visiting Feilding. Mrs A. G. Elliott, New Plymouth, is spending a holiday in the Wairarapa. Mrs L. Ferne, of Allredton, together with Mr Ferne, is visiting the South Island. Mrs R. R. Burling, Essex Street, Masterton, who has been on a visit to Sydney, has returned. Miss Vida Lethbridge, of Marton, is on a visit to Eketahuna, being the guest of Mrs C. P. Murray-Aynsley. Mr and Mrs Frank Daysh and Miss Daysh, of Carrington, have returned from an extended visit to Sydney. Miss Peggy Waldie, of Lower Hutt, has been the' guest of Mrs Leo Connolly, Pownall Street, Masterton. Miss Jocelyn Betts, of Masterton, made her first solo flight from the Hood Aerodrome on Tuesday afternoon. Mrs R. McKenzie (Wanganui), who will leave shortly on a visit to Australia, has been visiting friends in Masterton. Miss June Strouts, formerly of Masterton, but now of Wanganui, is a visitor to Gisborne, and is the guest of her. sister, Mrs H. Kemp. Mrs Arthur Morgan, of Stratford, has returned home after having visited her parents, the Hon A. D. and Mrs McLeod, of Martinborough. Miss Sybil Anderson, who has been spending a holiday with her parents, Mr and Mrs A. E. Anderson, Taratahi, has returned to duty at the Palmerston North Public Hospital. A gift afternoon was tendered Miss Rona Blatchford yesterday afternoon | by her cousin, Miss Joyce Wyeth, in honour of her approaching marriage. The function took place at the residence at Mount Bruce, and was very enjoyable. The guest of honour was the recipient of many useful gifts.

Mr and Mrs W. Davidson were host and hostess at a delightful linen evening given in honour of a popular bride-to-be, Miss Violet Gust, last Tuesday night in the Orange Hall, Bannister Street. Over 80 guests were present, and a most enjoyable time was spent in dancing and games. After supper Miss Gust was called upon to open the numerous parcels, these testifying to the popularity of the bride-to-be. The bridegroom-elect,. Mr Leonard Pike, suitably replied on behalf of Miss Gust and himself.

A very happy gathering took place recently at the residence of Mrs A. Christiansen, Cuba Street, Palmerston North, to celebrate her 89th birthday. Members o*" the family and relations from Cambridge, Wellington, Eketahuna, Pahiatua and Palmerston North attended, and a very pleasant time was spent together. Telegrams and messages from various parts of New Zealand were received from friends and relations, Mrs Christiansen, who has spent sixty-three years in New Zealand, lived for some years in Masterton and Pahiatua. ENGAGEMENT. The engagement is announced of Edna Rachel, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs A. E. Hubbard, Tararua Street, Masterton, to William George, third son of Mr and Mrs W. G. Whiteman, Lansdowne. |
