OPENING RATES AT SALES. CROSSBREDS A SHADE EASIER. (Recd This Day, 10.20 a.m.) LONDON, July 12. The. wool sales opened with Merinos unchanged. Crossbreds were a shade easier. The offering was 8791 bales, including 5,999 from New Zealand, and 7,234 were sold. There was a moderate selection, chiefly of New Zealand crossbreds. Competition was active apart from slipes, which were frequently withdrawn owing to low bids. Merinos were from par to five per cent, crossbreds and fine crossbreds at par, medium and coarse crossbreds and slipes from five, to 71 per cent lower, than the closing prices of the last series. The Home trade was the principal buyer. New Zealand scoured crossbred, NGWMA Nine, brought 13Jd; slipe halfbred lambs’, Canterbury, llld to 12]d. / Messrs Levin and Co., Ltd., have received the following cable from their London agents dated July 12, 1938: —The auctions opened here today with a large attendance of buyers. There was strong competition all round. The demand for slipe wools was good. Compared with the closing rates of last sale, we quote:—Greasy Merino, best, no change; average, no change; fine halfbreds, 50/56, no change; extra fine crossbreds, 48/50; fine crossbreds, 46/48; medium crossbreds, 44/46; coarse crossbreds, 40/44; low crossbreds, 36/40 —all Id per lb higher. Slipe wools generally par to 5 per cent lower.
