METHODIST CHURCH

QUARTERLY MEETING. Methodist Church officials met last night for the quarterly meeting. The Rev Frederick J. Parker, the new Superintendent Minister, presided, and was cordially welcomed to his first official meeting by Mr F. G. Rutter, Circuit Steward. Returns of membership and of youth work were felt to be encouraging, while a report of the work in hand at Kuripuni was given by Pastor C. H. Skuse. The quarterly financial return showed a credit balance of £7 5s 4d. Considerable time was given to a discussion on missionary work at home and abroad and most encouraging reports were received. Arrangements for the Home Mission campaign in September were left in the hands of Dr Prior and the Superintendent. The meeting was enthusiastic in its support of the nomination of Pastor C. H. Skuse as a candidate for the ministry. Eulogistic reference was made to his splendid 'work at Kuripuni and all wished him well in his examinations for entrance. Two of the young men of the church, Mr Alan Handyside and Mr Martin White, were nominated as local preachers on trial and will take the prescribed courses of study and prepare for the examinations in due course. As there had been some sickness at the Methodist Children’s Home in Masterton it was decided to send the boys and girls a cheery greeting from the meeting and to “say it with oranges,” so a case or two of the fruit will accompany the greeting. Several of the members of the Circuit having suffered bereavement during' the past quarter, motions of sympathy were passed to Mr and Mrs A. J. Donald and family, to the relatives of Mrs Hayes at Kuripuni, and to Mr and Mrs Blinkhorne of Mas‘terton.

A very successful and enthusiastic meeting closed with prayer by the chairman.
