SETTLERS’ BALL

GATHERING AT KOPUARANGA LAST NIGHT. LARGE ATTENDANCE OF DANCERS. Visitors from all parts of the Wairarapa attended the Kopuaranga settlers’ fourth annual ball, held last night in the Kopuaranga Hall, the gathering proving a great success. No pains had been spared to ensure the enjoyment of the dancers and everything went with a swing from start to finish. A first-class supper was provided by a ladies’ committee. The members of the ladies’ committee were: Mesdames S. J. Clark, Alex Donald, H. Evans, A. B. Cottle, C. Jarrett, R. Kenny and W. Reside. The men’s committee, which also did good work, consisted of Messrs S. J. Clark (chairman), G. L. Donald, W. Reside, J. Clark, H. Evans and R. Cottle. Mr G. L. Donald was an efficient M.C. and splendid music was provided by Te Tau’s orchestra. Extras were played by Mrs Reside and Mr J. West. The work and energy of the joint secretaries, Mrs S. J. Clark and Mr G. L. Donald, contributed largely to the success of the ball. The Monte Carlo was won by Mr and Mrs C. Smith and Mr E. Meurk and Miss M. Tildesley won the lucky spot dance. Greenland, blue taffeta; Suisted, blue crepe; H. McKenzie, blue silk velvet; J. Oliver, black silk velvet; McMillan, floral moire and taffeta; Newman, rust apple velvet; Jermy, henna satin; Misses L. Westhead, green ring satin; N. Westhead, pink silk crepe; E. Jarrett, pink taffeta; W. Westhead, blue satin; P. Westhead, blue crepe satin; Hibberd, black moral georgette; J. Nielsen, floral georgette; D. Nielsen, pink moire; I. Bell, white lace and georgette; J. Benge, red taffeta; M. Hack, white satin; M. Larsen, red georgette and gold trimmings; V. Larsen, green satin; J. Larsen, rose satin; W. Greenland, lemon satin; M. Clark, Swiss muslin over taffeta; D. Kenny, blue velvet; L. Eneroldsen, blue taffeta; Joyce Wilton, lemon crepe; Doris Smith, blue chenille; Elsie Smith, green taffeta; V. Jackson, blue taffeta; L. Fenimore, floral georgette; G. Taylor, peacock blue satin; J. Madsen, white floral georgette; P. Cretney, windswept georgette; M. Ross, green lace with silver.
