“PIG IN A POKE”

CENTENNIAL MEMORIAL HISTORIES MARTINBOROUGH BOROUGH ATTITUDE “It is like buying a pig in a poke," observed Councillor W. F. Gundrie, when referring at last night’s meeting of the Martinborough Council, to a letter from the Wellington Provincial Centennial Committee asking how many copies of the proposed history of the province the council would be prepared to purchase, should any large number of the books remain unsold in 1940. “Even on a national occasion such as this,” added Councillor Gundrie, “the book will have to sell on its merits.” Councillor T. A. Hamilton: “If the book is any good there will not be any left over.”

Councillor Gundrie: “And if it is no good, they will all be left over.” It was decided to take no action at present.
