BILLIARD ROOM PROPRIETOR FINED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) ROTORUA, This Day. Remarking that it was unfortunate that the principal had not been brought to Court, Messrs H. Tai Mitchell and O. H. Coleman, J’s.P., convicted and fined a Native billiard room proprietor, Neri Rodgers, £2O for bookmaking. The police said the raid had resulted in a good quantity of betting material being found, showing that defendant was operating as an agent in a large way. Counsel for defendant admitted the offence, stating that it was the first time Rodgers had been before the Court. Hew as married, with three children. An application had already been lodged with the council for the transfer of the billiard room licence. The Bench allowed seven days for the payment of the fine.
