BAIL REFUSED
DEATH OF ASSAULTED MAN.' ALLEGED ASSAILANT BEFORE COURT. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Charged with assaulting John Joseph Owen, on June 7, at Petone, so as to cause him actual bodily harm, Leonard Neiling, aged 25, a labourer and brushmaker, appeared before Mr J. H. Luxford, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court this morning. Sub-Inspector Dempsey said accused was arrested at Waihi on the present charge. The man assaulted had since died. The police asked for a remand for a week. When bail was asked for Sub-Inspec-tor Dempsey stated that the full charge had not yet been preferred. A remand was granted, but bail was refused.
