FANCY DRESS PARTY

GATHERING IN Y.M.C.A. HALL. LIST OF PRIZE-WINNERS. At the Y.M.C.A. Hall on Saturday afternoon the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Masterton branch of the Labour Party held a children’s, fancy dress party. Over 200 children and parents spent a jolly afternoon. The frocking of the children was indeed a credit to the ’parents, making it an extremely difficult task for the judges. Before presenting the prizes Mr Robertson thanked all present for their attendance and for their great interest in the future generation. He also thanked those ladies and gentlemen who so willingly worked to make the function the success that it was. A special feature of the afternoon was the presence of some of the invalids of the children’s ward of the Public Hospital, who thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Adding to the enjoyment of the afternoon was the performance of several children, namely: Master Jack Hancox, tap dancer; Marjorie Oliver, Joyce Diane Shaw, pupils of Miss Hazel Locke, n a tap trio; little Miss Needham, recitation; Miss Josephine Hanley, recitation, and Ngaire and Basil Marsh in novelty items. Mr Sid Gerand and his clever dog “Teddy" delighted the children with his clever antics. Afternoon - tea was served by the ladies of the Auxiliary, which put the finishing touch to the success of the function. The judges were Miss Betty Coleman and Mrs Tatton, who awarded the prizes as follow: —Most original girl, Mary Edwards as “Shipwrecked at Midnight”; most original boy, Pat Neilson, as “Past and Present Governments”; best dressed girl, Joan Whittaker, as “Victorian Posy”; best dressed boy, Leslie Fulton, as “Tramp”; cheapest costume, girl, Marjorie Oliver as “Peter Pan”; boy, lan Robertson, as “Sleepless Nights”; best poster, “Seed Pair,” Nancy and Verna Cormick.
