THE REGENT.
“THE BUCCANEER.” For Paramount's “The Buccaneer,” Cecil B. De Mille’s epic production of America’s struggle for survival during the war of 1812, which will open tonight at the Regent Theatre, he undertook the gigantic task of moving his scene of operations to the island of Barataria in the Gulf of Mexico, near Orleans. “The Buccaneer,” his most spectacular epic with an American background, stars Frederic March as Lafitte, the Louisana pirate chief who helped General Andy Jackson beat the British at the Battle of New Orleans. Franciska Gaal, the glamorous Hungarian star, Akim Tamiroff, Margot Grahame, Walter Brennan, lan Keith, and a score of others. The shorts on the programme are particularly interesting and include the last Anzac Day parade in Sydney, showing the large N.Z. contingent on the march. The N.Z. polo team which recently visited Australia, will be seen in action, and there is also a Popeye Cartoon. Patrons should reserve their seats early. The box plans at Regent Theatre only, ’phone 2303.
