Lord Balfour of Burleigh has been elected chairman of the National Bank of New Zealand, in succession to Sir Austin Harris, who retains a seat on the board, a London cablegram states. The death occurred at Wellington this week of Mr Simon Scott, at the age of 86 years. He was the father of Mrs Ned Perry, of Featherston, and was well known in the Wairarapa in his younger days, competing at many pigeon matches. Mr W. B. Printz, who has been manager of Messrs H. Nimmo and Son, Ltd., Masterton, for the past two years, has been appointed to an executive position with James Smith’s, Ltd., Wellington, in charge of the Home Service and Radio Division of that firm. Mr Printz will take up his new duties on July 18. The Rev John Gilkison, of the Lower Hutt Congregational Church, who was ordained in March of this year, has accepted a call from the London Missionary Society for labour in the missionary field. He is to leave for Sydney toward the end of the present month, and, after a period of preparation there, will go to Papua. Mr Gilkison will be succeeded at Lower Hutt by the Rev Mr Bell, Gore. Mr R. Darroch, secretary of the Wellington branch of the Navy League, and hon secretary for the conference of Navy League branches in New Zealand, will visit Masterton next week. On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday he will address the pupils of private and secondary schools. Mr Darroch will also address Navy League members and friends at an informal meeting in the Midland Hotel on Tuesday, afternoon.
