OBITUARY
MRS E. PRICE The death occurred yesterday afternoon at the Masterton hospital of Mrs Evelyn Price a very old and highly respected resident of Masterton. The late Mrs Price, who was in her 86th year, was born in Brabowin, Kent, England, and came out to New Zealand with her husband, the late Mr S. J. Price in 1874, in the sailing ship “Weranington. She arrived in Masterton the same year, and had resided here ever since. Mr Price predeceased her 20 years ago, and she is survived by a family of three sons and four daughters. The sons are Messrs E. G. and C. F. Price, of Masterton, and B. T. Price, of Mamaku, and the daughters Mrs M. C. Andrew of Te Awamutu, Mrs R. G. Shaw, Rongatea, Mrs P. W. Reardon, Taumaranui, ■ and Mrs W. Dailey of Sydney. There are 37 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren. The sympathy of a wide circle of friends will be extended to the relatives in their bereavement. The funeral will take place on Monday, leaving Mr G. Hydes’ mortuary chapel, Church Street, at 1.30 p.m, for the Masterton cemetery. MRS H. J. R. BYFORD. The death occurred this morning of Mrs Margaret Isabella Byford, wife of Mr H. J. R. Byford, a well-known building contractor of Masterton.' The late Mrs Byford had been in indifferent health for some weeks and was held in high esteem by her many friends. The funeral will take place on Monday, leaving the residence, Victoria Street, at 3 p.m., for the Masterton Cemetery. MR W. M. LAING. The many friends in the Wairarapa and elsewhere of Mr William Miller Laing, formerly a well known farmer of Bideford, will regret to hear of his death, which occurred last night at his residence, Seatoun. The late Mr Laing, who was 79 years of age, was the eldest son of the late Mr and Mrs J. W. Laing, old residents of Dunedin. As a young man .Mr Laing took up land in the Bideford district about 55 years ago, at that time all standing bush, where his property became well known as Glencrieff, so named after his grandfather’s parish ■in Scotland. This property was developed into a prosperous sheep station and Mr Laing, upon retiring many years ago, took up his residence at Seatoun. He was still interested in the land, however, and at the time of his death owned Rata Hills station, also in the Bideford district.
The late Mr. Laing married the eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Allan Cameron, of Rewarewa station, and celebrated his golden wedding about a year ago. Hq is survived by a widow, one son, Mr Gordon Laing, Upper Plain, and three daughters, Mesdames P. Staples and H. Rix-Trott, and Miss Jean Laing, all of Wellington, besides 16 grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren. Mr J. M. Laing, of the Peaks, Tinui, is a brother. The funeral will take place on Monday, leaving Knox Church at 2 p.m. for the Masterton Cemetery.
