SHEEPSKINS AND HIDES

PRICES IN WELLINGTON. A GENERAL IMPROVEMENT. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day: At the sale of sheepskins, hides and tallow held yesterday by the Wellington brokers an average offering was submitted to a full bench of buyers. There was keen competition, with a general improvement on the prices of sheepskins and hides. Sheepskins: All sections of the trade competed keenly and an excellent clearance was effected at prices which were generally 3d a lb up on last sale’s quotations. The small offering of salted skins showed a corresponding advance. Hides: These were also- in demand and a general improvement in values was recorded. Heavy, medium and lightweights advanced by 3d to 3-8 d a lb. Kips showed little change, while yearlings were not in demand and suffered a decline of about Id a lb. Calfskins advanced by -Id to gd a lb. Tallow: A small offering, with little change in values. The range of prices is as follows: — Dry sheepskins: Halfbred, 7Jd to 9d; fine crossbred, G;'d to 83d; medium crossbred, 6d to 8?d; coarse crossbred, 7d to 81d; half wools, 53d to 83d; quarter wools, 33d to 7d; pelts, 23d to 43d. Salted skins: Half wools, 3s to 3s 9d; three-quarter wools to ss; full wools to 6s Id. Hides; Ox, 331 b to 441 b, 4d to 4 l-8d; 451bs to 521bs, 2d to 5'3 d; 531 b to 591 b, 4|d to 63d; 601 b to 691 b, 43d to 7 3-8 d; 701 b and over, 5 7-8 d to 7d. Cow, 331 b to 391 b, 2d to 43d; 401 b to 481 b, 2 5-Bd. to 43d; 491 b and over, 3Jd to sd. Kip, 251 b to 321 b, 2,3-8 d to 5 3-8 d; 171 b to 241 b, 3 l-8d to 7d. Yearling, 111 b to 16lb, 4d to 5 7-Bd. Calf, 91b to 101 b, 5d to 73d; 61b to 81b, 73d to 83d; lib to 51b, to B|d. Tallow: In casks, etc., 15s; in tins, 6s to 8s 6d. Sundries: Cowtails, 9d to lid.
