FEATHERSTON
NATIONAL PARTY MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The annual meeting of the Featherston branch of the National Party was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall. Mr C. J. Nix, chairman, presided over a large attendance of members, and apologies for absence were accepted from many more. The annual report and statement of receipts and expenditure were read and adopted. The following officers were elected: Chairman, Mr C. J. Nix (re-elected); secretary, Mr J. Brophy (re-elected); treasurer, Mr H. Lawson; delegates to central executive, Messrs G. Cole, R. W. Fuge, R. R. P. Hardy, C. J. Nix, A. Robbins, D. H. S. Riddiford, Algar Williams, Dr Sharp, W. Johnson, C. C. Wilkinson, A. C. Pearce, H. Lawson, G. E. Yule, J. Brophy, R. N. Barton, Bruce Donald and W. H. Sadler. Mr J. F. Thompson, National candidate for the Wairarapa, was present. He said that so far as Mr Ben Roberts and himself were concerned the election would be fought in a strenuous but clean manner. He gave an interesting address. Amongst other things he expressed himself as strongly in favour of the Rimutaka tunnel, in respect to which he said he had been on several deputations to Wellington advocating its necessity, and that it had been decided by previous Governments that it would be put in hand as soon as the Tawa Flat tunnel had been completed. The National Party will hold a dance and euchre tournament on Monday evening. PERSONAL ITEMS. Mr and Mrs H. Graham and Miss Joyce Graham are away on a motor tour of the Hawke’s Bay district. Mr N. Harford, Pahiatua, is the guest of Mr and Mrs McTaggart. PLUNKET. SOCIETY. At the monthly meeting of the Featherston Plunket Society there were present Mesdames Q. Donald, president, H. R. Bloxam, G. E. Yule, J. R. Matthews, A. Robbins, F. C. Benton. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames R. W. Matthews, J. G. McKenzie, A. S. Kilsby, J. E. Willett and G. Brandon. The nurse’s report covering two months was read and considered very satisfactory. _ Accounts totalling £ Id’l4s 8d were passed for payment. One new member was elected. The nurse is to give a lecture to mothers at a later date on the care and feeding of children. MINIATURE RIFLES MATCH. South Featherston defeated Featherston in a match fired on Wednesday evening by a margin of 43 points. The following are the scores;— South Featherston. —A. Gain 100, T. George 99, C. Bain 99, L.
