GREYTOWN

TRUST LANDS TRUST. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Trustees was held in Greytown last night. Mr D. P. Loasby occupied the chair and there was also present Messrs H. G. Carter, F. Dennes, H. J. Nightingale and H. Walden. < The State Advances .Corporation acknowledged the receipt of the Truth’s signed agreement for the sale of the land, and stated that it had been forwarded to the under-secretary of Public Works for completion. Accounts passed for payment were: Alterations and repairs to building, £374 10s; insurances, £8 14s 2d; sundry accounts, £7 7s 8d; total, £390 11s lOd. ST. LUKE’S LADIES’ GUILD. At the monthly meeting of St. Luke’s Ladies’ Guild, Mrs York presided over seventeen members. Four members sent apologies for absence. One new member was welcomed. Pleasure was expressed at the result of the recent jumble sale, which added £ll 12s 6d to the funds. The secretary presented a quarterly balance sheet which showed a satisfactory position. Great interest was taken in the arrangements for the “Apron Invitation” party to be held on the evening of August 1. Supper and plenty of amusement for young and old will be provided, also prizes for various items. Further details regarding the “Paddy’s Market” in November were discussed, and the meeting ended with a practice of some special hymns to be sung at the Bishop’s service on the morning of July 31. A competition for a lace afternon tea cloth was won by Mrs Slater. Mesdames Smallwood and Graham were heartily thanked for providing afternoon tea. The August meeting will be held at the Vicarage and the members will be the guests of Canon and Mrs Sykes. BOY SCOUTS. The annual meeting of the Greytown Boy Scouts and Cubs Committee was held in the Scout Hall last evening, Mr H. J. Farley (deputy chairman) presided in the absence of the president (Mr L. Huntly), who is away in England. .Mr H. A. Johansen was appointed Scout Master and Mr L. Brabender assistant. Miss B. Haigh was re-elected Cub mistress and Miss M. Eccles her assistant. Mr N. Langford was re-elected secretary. Two scouts were nominated to attend the Jamboree to be held in Sydney at the end of the year, viz., J. Anker and F. Skeet. RUGBY TEAMS. The Greytown team which will play Masterton at Masterton will be: Bond, Nix, Brunton (2), Hume (3), Braggins, Fairbrother, Hood, Galyer, Maddison, Flutey, Skeet, Stringfellow, Mahira. R.S.A. MEETING A committee meeting of the local branch of the R.S.A. was held under unusual conditions on Thursday night, the meeting taking place at the hospital. The matron, Miss Higginson, is a member of the R.S.A. committee and Mr J. W. Herod is at present a patient. The resignation of Mr W. McNinn as secretary of the branch was accepted with regret. i Mr G. Robinson was appointed as secretary in place of Mr McNinn, who now resides in Masterton. It was decided to open an account at the Bank of New Zealand. The chairman, Mr H. G. Carter reported that the Headstone Fund now amounted to £l3 14s 2d, and it was decided to apply for two headstones immediately. A remit is to be forwarded to the New Zealand R.S.A. conference requesting the Government to revise the conditions for free headstones. The branch decided to hold a social evening early in August, when all “diggers” and their wives and children will meet together. After the meeting the committee was entertained at supper by Miss Higginson.
