MANNEQUIN PARADE

HELD DURING FLYING TRIP. A mannequin parade has been held in a flying-boat 10.009 ft. up. The flying boat was Imperial Airways’ Cavalier, which was flying between New York and Bermuda. During the trip five mannequins, under the charge of a New York stylist, Miss Francis Hawkes, paraded in the promenade saloon in hats, coats, and costumes chosen as being especially suitable for wearing when flying over to Bermuda and making a short stay there. Now that skirts have become shorter, stockings are gaining in importance, and some lovely new shades have been brought out this summer. Chief among them are soft flame and copper shades, but next summer a tan effect is not to be the chief aim. This is largely because brilliant tan colours do not go well with the pink, mauves, and blues which are to make up our summer dresses.

Stockings made of straw are the latest innovation of Germany’s four-year plan. A factory has been built near Berlin which is experimenting with the wholesale production of artificial silk and wool made of cellulose, which is obtained from straw.
