CLAY BIRD SHOOTING

SOUTH WAIRARAPA CLUB. R. BUICK WINS TWO TROPHIES. (“Times-Age” Special.) The South Wairarapa Gun Club held a shoot recently for a trophy presented by the C.A. Company. The conditions were most unfavourable, nevertheless some good shooting was shown. The winner, R. Buick, off 22 yds, obtained 20 birds out of 21, which was really splendid shooting. Messrs Spipage (Hutt), G. Sutherland, S. Hall and I. Sutherland tied for second place and in the shoot-off I Sutherland won. The runner-up is sixteen years of age and has been shooting with marked success throughout the series. The final shoot for the Brough Cup was fired last Saturday. The climatic conditions were most adverse, a raging nor-wester impeding the accuracy of marksmanship. As a result small scores were registered, the winner for the day being S Hall, who secured 16 birds out of 18. The veteran, R. Buick, failed badly only securing 10 from the 24yds mark. However, as he had a commanding lead in the other series this score did not prevent him from winning the trophy. G. Sutherland was runner-up. There were 24 competitors in this event. The scores in each competition were as under: — C.A.C. Trophy( 21 birds): R. Buick, 22yds, 20; T. Skipage, 22yds, 19; G. Sutherland, 15yds, 19; S. Hall, 14yds, 19; I. Sutherland, 12yds, 19; C. Skipage, 15yds, 11; F. Brough, 11yds, 11. Brough Cup (18 birds): S.. Hall, 14 yds, 16; G. Sutherland, 15yds, 15; D. Fenwick, 11yds, 14; S. Mclntosh, 11yds, 14; T. Sargent, 11yds, 13; V. Swanson,

15yds, 13; T. Skipage, 22yds, 12; R. Buick, 24yds, 10. The weather conditions were so unfavourable that several competitors did not complete their shoot. TISDALL CUP. Messrs Tisdall’s Wellington, have presented a cup for competition to the club. The first series of four shoots will be fired on Saturday next.
