LADIES’ REST ROOM. (“Times-Age” Special.) Following the example of all other towns in the Wairarapa, Featherston is at last to have a ladies’ rest room: The site has not yet been definitely decided upon, but it is understood it will be in the vicinity of the library. A subscription list has been opened, generous contributions having been already received. This much-needed institution will be greatly appreciated by country people and travelling public. GOLF CLUB COMPETITION. The third round for the Shield on Saturday last resulted as follows: — |G. O’Neale 79-9-70, receives 3 points; W. Rowles, 74-3-71, and W. The Kahutara Social Club held its fortnightly euchre tournament and dance in the Kahutara Hall on Sat- ' urday night, when there was a very good attendance. The winners of the ‘prizes in the euchre tournament were: ' Ladies: Mrs Himona 1, Mrs Fluty 2; men, Mr Grimstone 1, Mr C. Clements 2. The lucky spot dance was won by Mr W. Herrick and partner. MR BARKER’S ADDRESS The National candidate for Wellington East, Mr W. L. Barker,'addressed a largely-attended political meeting in ! the Kahutara Hall last night. The , speaker, who received an attentive hearing, criticised the Government’s Socialistic policy and stressed the necessity of removing the Government from office at the next election. On the motion of Mr E. F. Barton, seconded by Mr D. C. Collins, a motion of thanks was passed unanimously.

MEASLES AND INFLUENZA. A number of mild cases of measles and influenza are reported among adults and children. PLOUGHMAN’S ACCIDENT. Mr Harrison, ploughman at “Oporua,” had the misfortune to cut the top off one finger last week. RELIEVING SCHOOL TEACHER. Mr R. Anker, Greytown, is acting as relieving teacher at the Featherston School, pending the appointment of a headmaster. Mr S. Kilsby is acting as headmaster. EUCHRE PARTY. The Haunui Croquet Club held a “euchre afternoon” on Monday. The winners were: Mrs Baker 1, Mrs Barry 2. PERSONAL ITEMS. Mr T. M. Harvey and Mr J. L. Lloyd left yesterday for • Feilding. Mr H. True, Kahutara, has returned from a holiday in Auckland. Miss Dawn Benton spent the weekend with her parents, Mr and Mrs Stanley Benton, Kahutara. Mr P. Graham, Dannevirke, visited Kahutara for the weekend. Mr S. True, Palmerston North, is the guest of Mr Somerville. Miss Eva Card has returned from a visit to Wanganui and Wellington. The boy Morton, who fractured his collarbone while playing at school recently, is making good progress towards recovery. Mrs C. J. Nix, who has been seriously ill for the past few weeks, is now much improved. Mr K. Allen, of the Bank of New Zealand, is at present indisposed. Mr and Mrs Curlett, who have been on a visit to Mr and Mrs Chas. Matthews, “Oporua,” left for the Auckland district on Monday. , Mrs Leslie, of the Post Office staff, • has left for a holiday, which is to be spent in Auckland. ' FIRE IN OFFICE. i The fire brigade received a call ,

shortly after 2 o’clock yesterday afternoon to a fire which had broken out in the office of Mr J. G. McKenzie. The fire was caused by a heater. The brigade was promptly on the scene, but their services were not required, as Mr McKenzie had in the meantime extinguished the flames.
