TIDES & POWER
FAULTS AND INTERRUPTIONS IN WELLINGTON. WATER REACHES FEEDER LINES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. An extraordinary succession of high tides in Wellington Harbour has resulted in a considerable interruption of the power supply in the mid-city area. Last night several tram-cars were unable to get back from their late trips to the barns owing to power failure. This morning, at about ten o’clock, the tide was again exceptionally high and water again invaded a tunnel carrying the feeder lines to the main city sub-station and .the waterfront. By use of the alternative circuits, the trouble was minimised and the tram service kept normal, but there were curious effects in many city buildings, where one section of the building would be lit and supplied with power while another part was in darkness and without power. It is hoped to restore all services during the day.
