WEDDING

GLENDINING—BAIRD. Glowing shades of red, blue and gold were chosen as her colour scheme by Barbara Helen, only daughter of Mr and Mrs S. M. Baird, Cole Street, Masterton, at her wedding on Saturday, to Rupert Hember, only son of Mr and Mrs E. H. Glendining, Wairoa. St. Matthew’s Anglican Church, where the Rev. E. J. Rich performed the ceremony, was banked with red holly and girls from St. Matthew’s Collegiate girls from St. Matthew’s Colegiate School (of which the bride is an old girl), sang in the choir. The bride, who was escorted by her I father, wore a lovely gown of gold brocaded French ivory mayalette; it was square-necked, with long, tightfitting sleeves ending in points over the hands, and slightly gathered at the shoulder. The ruched bodice came to a point, and the full skirt flared into a long circular train, the whole being lined in pale pink. The long veil of cream tulle was held in place by a topknot of cream roses and she carried a bouquet of cream lilies. The bridesmaids were Miss Margaret Pearce, Featherston, Miss Jose Hosking, and Miss Jocelyn Hornabrook, and the matron of honour, Mrs Alister Buchanan. They were attractively frocked in midnight blue chiffon velvet. Like the bride’s, their sleeves were long and fittting, the necklines were squared and the full skirts were slightly trained. Sashes of cherry red chiffon were tied at the back and fell in long ends to the hem of their skirts. They wore blue flowers attractively placed in their hair, and carried shower bouquets of red anemones and roses.

Mr John Marshall, Taihape, was best man, the groomsmen being Messrs Dick Reynolds, Gisborne, Douglas Hudson, Westport, and Stuart Haynes, Waikato. Messrs Walton White, Ralph Bunny, Ewan Bidwell and Jack Bennett were the ushers.

Several hundred guests from all parts of the North Island were later received by Mr and Mrs Baird, and Mr and Mrs Glendining at the Municipal Hall, which was beautifully decorated with flowers. Mrs Baird wore a Viennese frock of red-earth cloque morocain with hat to match, and carried an autumn-shaded bouquet. Mrs Glendining was wearing bottle green chiffon velvet with hat to match, and her posy was autumn tinted. Among those present were: Mrs Qreachan, Hamilton, Mrs D. McMaster, Mrs N. Moore, Mrs C. J. Bennett, Mrs R. Pilmer and Miss E. Baird, aunts of the bride. When Mr and Mi’s R. H. Glendining left later for the south, Mrs Glendining was wearing a three-quarter coat and skirt of petrol blue angora, with collar and revers of brown beaver and blue hat to match.
