EXAMINATION DATES

ADJUSTMENTS DISCUSSED IN BRITAIN NEED OF CO-ORDINATION (Recd This Day. 10.55. a.m.) RUGBY, July I.' The question of examination dates was discussed by a conference of representatives of the Board of Education. local edueationad authorities and the teaching profession. The opinion of the conference was that school and higher'school certificate examinations should be held towards the end of the autumn term, and that the cooperation of the universities should be enlisted in this matter. It was suggested in consequence that the educational year of secondary and elementary schools should be altered to coincide with the calendar year, and that if the academic year at universities remained as at present, suitable arrangements should be made to meet cases of financial hardship involved by the gap between the date of the higher school certificate and the date of entry to a university.
