ATMOSPHERE IN LONDON MUCH IMPROVED BUT PACE OF WALL STREET NOT EMULATED. CONCERN OVER SUBSIDIES ON GERMAN EXPORTS. By Telegraph—Press Association Copyright. (Recd This Day, 11.55 a.m.) LONDON, July 1. While Wall Street has been indulging in pyrotechnics dazzling even speculators, London is content to maintain the price of industrials and. gilt-edged stocks around recent .levels. Wide movements are confined to commodity based shares, most of which are substantially higher, despite* the profittaking of the past twenty-four hours. Gold shares have been subdued owing to the shifting of speculative interest to America. While London is content to follow Wall Street at a respectful distance, the atmosphere has greatly improved. Fears of war are rapidly receding. Brokers report a steady increase in inquiries from clients throughout Britain. Trade and political circles are becoming increasingly concerned regarding the menace of the German subsidisation of exports of coal. Exporters complain about undercutting by German competitors, who have silk and wool goods exports also subsidised, often to the extent of thirty to forty per cent.
