A London cablegram announces the death of Mr D. G. Somerville, Conservative M.P. for East Willesden. Mr Somervile was 'well known as a civil and constructional engineer. The death occurred at Wellington on Tuesday of Mr Arthur Pitt (Piti Porutu), who was well known in the Wairarapa, at the age of 70 years. He was in his younger days a prominent wrestler and swimmer.

Mr John Ward, formerly of Greytown, was admitted as a barrister and solicitor yesterday by Mr Justice Quilliam on the application of Mr S. A. Wiren, in the Supreme Court at Wellington.

Nominations for two producers’ representatives on the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board closed yesterday. The sitting members, Messrs T. A.'Duncan, Hunterville, and James Begg, Dunedin, were re-elected, there being no other nominations. Mr F. Collier, the noted Australian bass-baritone, is visiting Wellington. Mr Collier, whose wife is the equally well-known Melbourne soprano, Miss Elsie Treweek, was a prominent member of the last England Grand Opera Company to visit New Zealand, and was also a protagonist in the English Grand Opera Comupany imported at the time of the Victorian Centenary. Between times, Mr Collier has been engaged in England, at one time being a leading performer in the National Opera Company, which did fine work in London and the provinces.
