MARTINBOROUGH

PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH. (“Times-Age” Special.) The ladies’ committee of the Presbyterian Church entertained a large number of guests at a social afternoon at the Presbyterian Hall yesterday. A balloon competition was won by Mrs Miles and the second competition and Mrs T. Boyd sang. Both Roper gave a comic Scottish recitation and Mrse T. Boyd sang. Both these items were very much appreciated. • Afternoon tea was served and the singing of “Auld Lang Syne” brought a pleasant afternoon to a close. PERSONAL ITEMS. Mr and Mrs L. George, of Tawaha, have returned from a holiday spent in Hastings. Mr and Mrs Sandy Chapman have returned from a holiday at Tinapai. Mr and Mrs E. R. Burch have returned from a trip to Rotorua. Mr and Mrs Donovan, of Tawaha, are visiting the South Island. Miss Kathleen Hill, of Wellington, arrived today to visit her parents at Bush Gully, Hinakura. At a social evening held on Wednesday night the Martinborough branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association presented their honorary secretary, Mr N. C. D. Mason, with a golf bag and club. In making the presentation, the chairman (Mr N. H. Thomas) expressed the association’s gratitude for the work Mr Mason has done for the R.S.A. for a number of years. Mr Mason suitably returned thanks. AN ENJOYABLE SOCIAL. The monthly social of the Home and School Association was held last evening and was an enjoyable function. There was a fair attendance, Novelty dances were won by Miss Broughton and Mr Sutton and by Miss M. Robertson and Mr Ken Wright. Mr F. P. Duffy supplied’the music. Extras were played by Misses Prussing, Davey, Grant and Mr Te Maire. The prizes in the euchre tournament were won as follows: —Ladies, Mrs Whitehead 1, Mrs Wilson 2; men, Mr lan Howat 1, Mr Dick Kaio 2.
