SHOP DAY
FUNDS FOR WAR VICTIMS. LEAGUE OF NATIONS UNION EFFORT. The jumble shop day held yesterday by the Masterton branch of the League of Nations Union to raise funds for child victims of war proved very successful., The president (Mrs T. R. Barrer) and council members, Mesdames .Engstrom, Douglas, Miller, and Misses Bradbury, Elliott, and Barrer, were ■ kept busy all day, and wish to thank all those who responded so liberally with contributions of all kinds, the Trust Lands Trust for use of the building, and the Y.M.C.A. for loan of trestles and chairs. A sum of £3l was raised.
A copper trail in charge of Mrs Douglas and Miss Barrer in quitd a short time realised £2 7s. Nearly £lB was taken at the stalls. In addition donations are gratefully acknowledged from the following: —Solway College girls, £5; Mrs M. Rue, £1; Mr and Mrs Dunderdale Senr., £2; Miss Allan, £1; Mrs J. Macßae, 10s; Mrs J. Caselberg, 10s; Miss Stoddart, 10s; Mrs and Miss Sutherland, 10s; Mr Keltic, ss; Mrs Richardson, ss; Miss Daniell, ss; Miss Robinson, ss; Mrs G. W. Morice, ss; Miss Keetly, ss; Mrs J. Gray, ss; Miss M. Cameron, 2s 6d; Miss M. Stilborn, 2s 6d; per Miss J. Sellar, 2s 6d; Mrs Speight, Is. A meeting of the League of Nations’ Union Council will shortly be held to decide as to the allocation of the funds The bulk of the money will probably be sent to China in response to the appeal recently made by Madame Chiang Kai-shek. A sum of £4 will feed, clothe and house a Chinese child for one year.
