A large shark, estimated at more than 16 feet in length, was seen from the auxiliary sketch Miro when the vessel was sheltering in Hick’s Bay during a voyage from Dunedin to Auckland. On the arrival of the Miro at Auckland, her master, Captain Monigan, said the shark was the largest he had ever seen, being longer than the ketch’s lifeboat.
Since the elections on May 11, Mr R. M. Macfarlane has assumed two new titles, Mayor of Christchurch and Justice of the Peace; but a correspondent has given him a third unofficial title, that of the ‘’Honourable” Mr Macfarlane. However, the Mayor has not yet attained the unofficial dignity of the Christchurch Town Clerk (Mr J. S. Neville), who, after his name had appeared in the Birthday Honours, received a letter inscribed, “Sir John Neville.”
