POLITICAL POLICY

BOTH SIDES OF THE STORY TO BE TOLD OBSERVATIONS BY NATIONAL LEADER By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, This Day. “The atmosphere of the country today is as lively in a political sense as during the week before a general election,” said the Leader of the Opposition, the Hon Adam Hamilton, in an interview yesterday. He said that no decision had yet been reached as to whether the Opposition would move a no-confidence amendment to the Ad-dress-in-Reply motion, the debate on which will begin in the House of Representatives tomorrow. “The Labour Government,” said Mr Hamilton, “has nearly completed its last term, and has carried out some of its election pledges, and some have been overlooked. The discussions this session will therefore be about their legislation and administration, not what we did when in power or what we propose to do, although that will come later. We shall hear about the benefits of Labour legislation, but the Opposition will tell a different story.” Mr Hamilton said the National Party was well advanced in the selection of candidates. So far there seemed very little risk of vote-splitting. It was encouraging to see how the antiLabour view in the country ws likely to be well concentrated on National candidates.
