HITLER INDIGNANT
AT UNREST IN AUSTRIA FEARS OF RUTHLESS PURGE DISSENSION AND HATRED OF GERMANS (Recd This Day, 1.35 p.m.) LONDON, June 26. The “Daily Herald” says Hitler .is indignant at Austria’s recalcitrance. He gave an audience to Dr Inquart and Herr Neubacher, Mayor of Vienna, at Berchtesgaden. They told him that the Austrian situation demands his personal attention. It is feared that if this is given, a ruthless purge will be launched in an attempt to extinguish opposition to the new Nazi regime. Herr Leopold, Austria’s ex-Nazi leader, who was removed from Austria and attached to Herr Hess’s staff, heads a group in revolt against Herr Buerckel, whom he regards as his supersessor. There i$ wide internal dissension and general hatred of the Germans.
