OBITUARY
MAJOR GENERAL LAYE. (Recd This Day. 12.25 p.m.) LONDON. June 26. The death has occurred of Major General Joseph Henry Laye. Major General Joseph Henry Laye, C.V.0., C. 8., was born in Auckland in 1849. He served in the Kaffiir War and in the Zulu War in 1879. He was attached to the Army Headquarters for many years. He first married a daughter of General Leslie Dean Pitt, Lieut.Governor of New Zealand and later a daughter of the late John Leishman, of Edinburgh.
