When the blades of the mincing machine, get blunt, put through two or thr.ee small pieces of bath brick. You will find that this sharpense them immediately. See that the machine is thoroughly clean again before use.
When frying fish, put a small piece of bread "crust into the pan. Not only does it prevent the fat from spluttering, but the bread shows by its brown colour just when the fat is ready for the fish.
Often a recipe calls for tinned fruit, but offers no suggestion for using the syrup. Here are some ways in which the syrup may be utilised: Thicken with cornflour, add a little grated orange peel, and use as a pudding sauce. Use in mixed drinks. Use for liquid when making Betty Brown. Use instead of water when stewing apples or making apple sauce. Add to liquid used when stewing dried fruits.
, You can make little working aprons from old shirts by cutting out the back of the shirt, cutting round the yoke and sleeves. Then' shape the arm-holes of the apron and use the good parts of the shirt to make pocket, strings, and neckband. Finish with an edging of bias binding.
To strengthen the voice, add the beaten white of an egg to the juice of a lemon. Sweeten with a little sugar, and take a dose when the voice is weak or hoarse.
If stamps adhere through being folded wrongly, lay a piece of thin paper over the stamps, and run a hot iron over them. They will then pull apart easily, the gum remaining on the back of each stamp.
To iron a pleated frock, turn the garment inside out, and iron the pleats first on the wrong side, where their formation may be easily seen. Now turn the garment to the right side and iron the pleats in the folds ready set.
