MARTINBOROUGHD
SCOTTISH CONCERT. (“Times-Age” Special.) There was a fairly large attendance at the Scottish concert on Friday evening. A bright and varied programme was presented by Masterton and local artists, every item receiving a hearty round of applause. The Wairarapa College Pipe Band proved very popular, and the audience showed they are eager to see more of the Masterton accordeon band which played several selections during the evening. Recitations were given by Misses Margaret McLaren and Joan Grantham, and vocal solos by Miss Gillian Goodey all of which were encored. The Irish Reel performed by Kathleen Burke, Connie Burke, Edna Corlett and Jean Stevens, the sword dance by Edna Corlett, the Sean Triubhas by Kathleen Burke, and a sailor’s hornpipe by two lads, H. and L. Corlett, were much appreciated. Marjorie Ramsden, in check tights, swallow tail coat, top hat and holding a cane, gave a very fine tap dance and was encored. The piping selection by the champion piper, Mr Murdo Mackenzie, was enthusiastically applauded. A one-act play, “Rory Aforesaid,” was humorously rendered and much enjoyed. The players were Miss Ruth Mackay, Messrs 11. R. Thomson, T. Tomlinson, I. A. Prior. J. K. Jaine and C. W. Burling. After the concert supper was served to all present, followed by a. dance.
