The South Island section of the touring Australian badminton players easily beat a Canterbury team last evening. The results are as follows: — Mixed doubles: Thompson and Miss Housburgh beat Samms and Miss Peake, 15-6, 15-3; Craske and Miss Cuthertson beat Pattinson and Miss Goss, 15-0, 15-4. Women’s singles: Miss Housburgh beat Miss Peake, 11-3, 11.3; Miss Cuthbertson beat Miss S. Goss, 11-3, 11-3. Men’s singles: Craske beat Brock, 15-1, 13-15, 15-1; Thompson beat Pattinson, 15-6, 15-11. Women’s doubles: Misses Housburgh and Cuthbertson beat Misses Goss and Peake, 15-7, 15-2. Men's doubles: Thompson and Craske beat Wilson and Welsh, 15-2, 18-16. NORTH ISLAND BEATEN. HAWKSWORTH WINS GAME. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH. June 26. The section of the Australian badminton team touring the North Island beat a North Island team by 5 matches to 3 in a badminton Test on Saturday. Australia won both the mixed doubles, which came at a vital point in the series, the home players giving a disappointing display? Otherwise the teams were evenly matched. There was a packed house. The following are the details, Ausralian players being mentioned first. Men’s singles: Tonkin beat Sitedding. 15-12. 15-10; Harper lost to Hawksworth, 15-17, 6-15. Women’s singles: Miss Robert beat Mrs Wren, 11-7. 10-12, 11-5; Miss Hewett lost to Miss Fleming, 1-11, 1-11. Men's doubles: Harper and Tonkin lost to Hawksworth and Spedding, 5-15. 12-15.
