IN CUSTODY AGAIN
RECAPTURE OF ESCAPED PRISONER CHASE THROUGH AUCKLAND STREETS (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day. Colin William Glass, described as a miner, aged 25. appeared before Mr C. Orr-Walker, S.M.. in the Police Cour* this morning, charged with having been found without lawful excuse in the Rob Roy Hotel, on April 18, having been convicted of the offence of attempting to discharge a firearm with intent to do grevious bodily harm and that having been in lawful custody in the Waikeria Borstal Institute, he did escape from custody. On the application of the police, Glass was remanded until July 4. Twice chased through the streets of Freeman’s Bay late on Saturday night, Glass, who was subsequently identified as an escaped prisoner, was rearrested after he had scaled a fire-escape and taken refuge in a wardrobe in a locked bedroom at the Rob Rov Hotel.
Arrested in the first place by Constable A. E. Carson when he was seen to take to his heels after opening the door of a car. Glass bolted again when he was being taken to the police station. He was chased by Constables Carson and R. Bowden. Having kept ahead for nearly a quarter of a mile. Glass scaled an iron fence and brick wall, dropping about 10 feet from the wall into the yard of the Rob Roy Hotel. He then ran nimbly up a fireescape. Constable Bawden followed and found Glass hidden in a wardrobe in a bedroom.
