PIG MARKETING

MEETING OF WAIRARAPA COMMITTEE. INCREASE IN COLLECTIONS. The annual meeting of suppliers under the auspices of the Wairarapa Pig Marketing Committee was held in Carterton yesterday, Mr E. T. Bliss being in the chair. The agent, Mr F. W. Heaven, reported that there was an increase of 611 in the number of pigs collected this year. An increase had been recorded for all districts from Mauriceville southwards, the year having been the best one experienced since the inception of the movement. Mr Bliss was unanimously re-elect-ed chairman, a tribute being paid by suppliers to the services he had rendered during the past year. Mr Bliss was also appointed delegate to attend the annual conference of the Pig Marketing Association in Hamilton on July 27. The following remit was passed for submission to the conference: “That suppliers are of opinion that in purchasing supplies our own co-operative movement has not yet exploited to the fullest extent the advantages in price rebates and concessions that co-opera-tion should achieve.” It was stated that a visit was expected shortly from Messrs W. A. Phillips, managing director, and N. W. Hastings, Dominion organiser, in which case a further general meeting of suppliers would be called.
