PURCHASES BY THE STATE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day, The Parliamentary Under-Secretary (Mr J. A. Lee) announced today that Cabinet had approved of purchases of land in the Point Chevalier area for approximately 157 houses, at New Lynn for 20 and at Avondale for two. At Petone an area sufficient for 100 houses and at Lower Hutt for 63 had been acquired. Other purchases are, at Te Puke sufficent for 13 houses, at Tauranga for 11, in Christchurch, 8 at Spreydon and 20 at Papanui, at Dunedin sufficient for five houses at North East Valley, at Mataura sufficient for 15 houses.
