A jet of water, at least 50 feet high, spouted into the air when the top of a stop-cock was accidentally removed in Carlyle Street, Napier, the other day. Repairs were being carried out to a house in the street and it was necessary to turn the water off at the main. However, the wrong tap was operated, and the main retaliated with a strong stream of water, to stem which a section of the main had to be disconnected.
