Visit to Buchanan Home.

The Masterton League of Mothers’ Choir paid a visit to the Buchanan Home yesterday and entertained the residents. A number of items were rendered melodiously by the choir, solo parts being taken by Mrs Olliver and Mrs Speight. Several recitations by Miss Jean Douglas were very much enjoyed, and another acceptable item was a pianoforte duet by Mesdames Hope and Bennett. Warm appreciation of the visit and entertainment was expressed on behalf of the residents, and the visitors were entertained at afternoon tea by the Matron (Miss Higginson).

A would-be chicxen farmer had some difficulty with her flock and wrote to the Ministry of Agriculture: —"Something is wrong with my chickens. Every morning I find two or three lying on the ground, cold and stiff, with their feet in the air. Can you tell me what is the matter?” After a while she received the following reply: "Dear Madam,—Your chickens are dead.”

At a dance to be held in the Arcade Hall on Saturday next, advertised elsewhere in this issue, the special attraction will be a fox-trot competition. Miss Merle Dickson, the well-known local dancing teacher, has consented to act as judge of what should prove a very interesting event. The supper will be of a high standard, and with the Blue River Orchestra supplying the music, an enjoyable evening’s entertainment is assured.
