ELECTRIC POWER
•'' I . MEETING OF WAIRARAPA BOARD' SATISFACTORY POSITION REPORTED (“Times-Age” Special) The monthly meeting of the Wairarapa Electric Power Board was held at Carterton this morning, the chairman, Mr A. C. Pearce, presiding. Others present were: Messrs S. Dalgleish, W. A. Tate, M. B. Tait, C. R. Holmes, W. Howard Booth, H. P. Hugo and J. W. Colquhoun. Mr F. C. Daniell was granted leave of absence. Mr Pearce was elected chairman of the Finance Committee, which now consists of all members. The Secretary-Manager, Mr G. Brown, reported that the various returns for May disclosed a satisfactory position. The net revenue showed a gain on last year of £75 4s lOd. The turnover in the trading department again showed an increase on last year’s figures. The increase in the number of units sold for domestic light and heat was satisfactory. That was the main test as to the success of otherwise of the new rate. It was anticipated that it would be some months before any such increase was particularly noticeable, but it appeared that the new rate was having an almost immediate effect. The increase in units sold in May, 1937, and May, 1936, was 18 per cent. This year the increase was 29.3 per cent. In spite of the large increase in the number of units sold for domestic supply, the net revenue was less by £265 13s 4d. That was the result of the new rate.
