STATE THEATRE.

DOUBLE FEATURE PROGRAMME An example of how precarious an act of violence can be to an innocent person is graphically shown in 20th Century-Fox’s current hit picture at the State Theatre. In “City Girl” Miss Phyllis Brooks, who co-stars with Ricardo Cortez, is shown in a quarrel with Adrienne Ames. Miss Ames enters the scene wearing gloves. It is evident that she is going to “get” Miss Brooks. To this end the jealous girl keeps her gloves on and seizes a pair of scissors—which of course will have no fingerprints upon it. In the ensuing scuffle, Miss Brooks tries to defend herself and in sheer terror seizes a gun. Miss Ames is shot dead and the pair of scissors flies off into a corner. Police come and Miss Brooks tells her story. Because of the known rivalry between the women for the affections of one man —and with Miss Brooks’ prints on the gun, what actually was self-defence appears to be out-and-out premeditated murder. A unique romance which ultimately reforms two lovers working outside the law is 'the theme underlying the exciting drama, “Double Danger,” the second feature at the State, an RKO Radio picture in which Preston Foster and Whitney Bourne have the top roles. Foster plays a novelist whose books are based on the exploits of a gentleman crook, who, in reality, is none other than himself. Miss Bourne is likewise a member of the filching fraternity, and it is the clever efforts of these two artists that lead to the suspense-laden action and subsequent romance. The cast includes Samuel S. Hinds, Donald Meek, Paul Guilfoyle, Cecil Kellaway, June Johnson, Arthur Lake and many others. Lew. Landers directed.
