PERSONAL
The Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, is at present visiting Dannevirke. The death, at the age of 62, of Mr C. J. Dennis, the Australian poet, who wrote “The Sentimental Bloke,” is reported in a cablegram from Melbourne. Mr Dudley R. Porter has been appointed secretary of the Dominion Farmers’ Institute, Ltd., a position formerly held by the late Mr E. C. Jack. The Hon W. Lee Martin, Minister of Agriculture, will open the Taumarunui A. and P. Show this evening, and will return to Wellington by the early express tomorrow morning. Mr G. Bromley, of the Bank of New Zealand staff at Featherston, left yesterday on transfer to Wellington, and his place is being taken by Mr D. C. Wilson, from Gisborne. Mr W. R. Watson, of Masterton, has received notification of his appointment to the Royal Air Force, England. Mr Watson, who will enter the service as a pilot officer and will commence training at the civil school at.' 1 Uxbridge, England, is to sail by the Rangitata on August 25. '
