TASMAN AIR MAILS
5 CONFERENCE PROPOSED IN LONDON ' HIGH COMMISSIONER TO ACT > FOR NEW ZEALAND • 1 (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Commenting on a statement by the , Federal Attorney-General (the Rt Hon . R. G. Menzies) that he had no know- • ledge of a pending conference in Lonl don to deal with the Tasman air mail I service, the Prime Minister (the Rt 1 Hon M. J. Savage) stated yesterday 1 that he had received a cablegram from i the Prime Minister of Australia, Mr J. A. Lyons, strongly urging the New Zealand Government to accept certain ■ proposals made by the United Kingdom ' Government, and to agree to a conference in London of the Government ' representatives concerned. ' “I have seen a reply stating that the New Zealand Government agreed with the proposals, that the United Kingdom Government would be informed to that effect, and that the High Commissioner, Mr W. J. Jordan, had been instructed to represent New Zealand at the proposed conference in London,” Mi’ Savage said. “That is all we can do,” he added. “We cannot be represented by a Minister for obvious reasons. We not only have a session of Parliament about to open, but also a general election to follow. Mr Jordan, being one of ourselves, knows our point of view, and as he will be getting whatever details are necessary, he can represent us just as well as a Minister could.”
