MR THORN’S STATEMENT AT GENEVA. LONDON, June 21. Under, a headline “Dominion proves forty-hour case,” the “Daily Herald” gives prominence to a report from Geneva of Mr J. Thorn’s speech at the International Labour Office, in which he quoted statistics indicating increases in workers and production in 193537. Mr Thorn admitted that the cost of living had increased 141 per cent, but said one-third of this was due to external conditions. In the same period, wages and salaries increased in the aggregate 42 per cent. “The fact is,” Mr Thorn stated, “that the masses of the people are better off than ever.
