COURSING

WAIRARAPA CLUB EVENTS. PHYSICK CHALLENGE CUP. Excellent nominations have been received by the Wairarapa Coursing Club for the Physick Challenge Cup and Class Stakes events to be run on Saturday. The Physick Cup, as usual, has drawn a field of high class dogs and the winner looks to be well concealed. Mr H. H. Webb, of Wellington, the present holder, will this year defend the cup with Pitz Palu and Silver Paper. Pitz Palu is in great form, having won the Watson Rose Bowl at his last start, and he looks sure to run well again. Silver Paper has not started this season but when in form is equal to holding her own with the bjst. Two owners who have previously won the cup, Mr A. Kininmont, Hastings, and Mr L. Jones, Masterton, will this year be represented by Welcome News and Rereatu respectively. The St. Leger winner, Big Ben, owned by Mr D. Wilson, is a very promising young dog. Archer Bros, will be represented by Golden King and this speedy dog has only to run up to his best form to prove very hard to beat. An interesting entry is that of Black Rufus, owned by Mr L. Wells, of Clive. This dog has been racing successfully at tin hare meetings in Hawke’s Bay and is said to possess speed above the average. Others taking part are Why Hurry, who tied for the Waterloo Cup last year; The Clipper, winner of the Archer Cup at his last start, and Orui Girl, who has been runner-up at her only two starts this season. The field for the Class Stake, limited to eight dogs, is as follows:—British Pride, Welcome Footsteps, Flash Diamond, Lady Hurley, Aristocrat, Gold Boa, Lady Failsworth, Advance Acre. The draw for both events takes place tonight at 8 o’clock.
