OPTIMIST CLUB
.TALK ON NAVIGATION A good attendance of members at the Optimist Club last evening listened to ■ a most interesting talk on navigation given by Mr I. G. Sykes. In the short time available Mr Sykes dealt very thoroughly with a subject which takes years of diligent practice in which to become proficient. Members were given examples of actual reckonings taken by the use of the sextant and by illustrations this method was made very clear. On the motion of Mr A. Handyside, Mr Sykes was accorded a hearty vote of thanks at the conclusion of his address. Next Tuesday the Wellington Optimists will be the visitors of the local club, and an enjoyable evening is anticipated. The tea has been postponed until 3.30 p.m., and a dance has been arranged for the visitors following the tea. Dance arrangements are in the capable hands of Mr George Barr.
