WEDDINGS

McLACHLAN—CARLE.

A pretty wedding of interest in the Wairarapa, took place on Saturday evening at St Matthew’s Church. Masterton, the contracting parties being Ivy Jordan, eldest twin daughter of Mrs R. Latham and the late Mr W. H. Carle, Miriam Street, Masterton, and Norman Stuart, elder son of Mr and Mrs N. H. McLachlan, "Pine Grove,” Te Rangitumau. The ceremony was performed by the Rev E. J. Rich, and the wedding music was played by Mr Miller Hope. The church was beautifully decorated by friends of the bride. The bride, who was escorted by her step-father, Mr R. Latham, wore a charming gown of rich pearl satin with long train. Her embroidered tulle veil was held with a coronet of orange blossom. She carried a lovely bouquet of roses, camelias and fern. The bridesmaids were Misses Sylvia Carle, Thelma Denbee, Gwen Carle and Jean McLachlan. They were dressed alike in red and white floral organdie Victorian frocks, trimmed with tiny red velvet buttons and wide red ribbon velvet sashes. Silver lame halos were worn, also silver sandals. Each carried a sheaf of red roses and berries. The bridegroom’s gifts to the bridesmaids were silver and red bracelets. Mr lan McLachlan (brother) was best man. The groomsmen were Messrs Wray McLachlan, Gordon McLachlan and Pat O’Brien (Wellington). ■ Messrs E. Carle, C. Carle and D. Aitken were ushers. During the signing of the register, the Girls’ Club, led by Mrs E. J. Rich, sang, “Gracious Spirit, Holy Dove.” | Mrs R. Latham, assisted by Mrs N. McLachlan, received the guests in St Matthew's Parish Hall. Mrs Latham wore a black silk net gown trimmed with silver sequins, with hat to match. She carried a pink bouquet. The bridegroom’s mother, Mrs McLachlan, wore a gown of black ring velvet and a black velvet hat. She carried a bouquet of red flowers. Many guests came from all parts of the North and South Islands. After the reception dancing was enjoyed by the guests. . When the bride and bridegroom left on a motor tour of the North Island, the bride travelled in a London tan ensemble, with accessories to match. The gift of the bridegroom to the bride was a gold watch, set in mother-of-pearl. Mr and Mrs Stuart McLachlan’s future home will be at Te Rangitumau. GRAY—JOY. At St. Matthew’s Church, Masterton, on' Saturday evening, the marriage took place of Doris Marjorie, daughter of Mr and Mrs W. L. Joy, Masterton, and Vivian Norman, son of Mr and Mrs F. B. Gray, also, of Masterton. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. E. J. Rich and Mr Miller Hope was at the organ. The bride, who was escorted by her father, looked charming in a gown of ivory satin, cut on slim lines, with buttons from neck to waistline, and a scalloped train. The tight-fitting sleeves formed points over the hands, and she wore a veil finished with orange blossom. She carried a bouquet of tulips and lilies to tone. The bridesmaids, Misses Elva Hodgetts (chief) and Verna Palamontain, both of Masterton, were dressed alike in powder blue georgette over blue satin. They carried bouquets of anenornes and roses to tone with their frocks.

The bridegroom was attended by Mr lan Percy, of Masterton as best man, and Mr Eugene Breen, also of Masterton, as groomsman. A reception was later held in the Cosy Tea Rooms, where Mrs Joy and Mrs Gray received the guests. Mrs Joy was dressed in gold and black and Mrs Gray wore green and gold. They both carried bouquets of autumn tints. When Mr and Mrs Gray left by car for the north, the bride was wearing a rust-coloured frock with brown accessories.

Mr and Mrs V. N. Gray’s future home will be in Masterton.
