KIWIS IN BRISBANE
♦ OVERSHADOWED BY OPPOSING PACK BEST TEAM YET ENCCUNTERED (Recd This Day, 1.30 p.m.) BRISBANE, This Day. Paying a tribute to the Kiwi’s tenacity in the second half of their match despite the Queensland forwards’ overwhelming domination, the “Courier Mail” says there were moments when, with the score at 18-11, the Kiwis had a chance of taking control that failed entirely due to the magnificent work of the Queensland pack. The “Sunday Mail” says the Kiwis failed to give even glimpses of the brilliancy that wore down the New South Wales forwards. They were overshadowed in all phases. The “Telegraph” describes the match as disappointing, the Kiwis’ weakness being a failure to tackle effectively. A compensating highlight, however, was Hemi’s great goal from 65 yards. Redwood and McNeight did not offer excuses. We were beaten by the best team we have yet encountered.” said Redwood. “They are a great team,” said Mr McNeight. Queensland League officials are opposed to the cancellation of the Sydney engagement on July 2, to allow a Test against the Kiwis.
