ATTEMPT ON MT. EVEREST NARROW ESCAPE OF CLIMBING PARTY. NO MENTION OF RETURNING. By Telegraph—Press Association. Copyright. (Recd This Day, 11.55 a.m.) LONDON, June 19. A “Times’’ copyright message from Calcutta states that a letter received from the Everest expedition reports that Mr Tilamn, three climbers and four porters were nearly caught by an avalanche on the North Col, but were dragged to safety by means of ropes. The letter does not mention an intention to return and says the monsoon seems to be established. The party is reconnoitring the west side route to ascertain whether it is practicable to assault the summit in monsoon conditions.
