FLOODS EXTENDING
WATERS IN TWO THOUSAND VILLAGES HUNDRED THOUSAND PEOPLE BEYOND RESCUE (Recd This Day, 11.0 a.m.) SHANGHAI, June 19. The flooded area is now a thousand square miles. Two thousand villages are totally and 1500 partly submerged. Out of 700,000 people threatened, it is feared that 100,000 are beyond rescue. Many of those marooned have only bark and roots for food. PROTEST IN LONDON OIL EMBARGO AND BOYCOTT ADVOCATED (Recd This Day, 11.0 a.m.) LONDON, June 19. As the culmination of a week’s meetings, the China Campaign Committee, numbering 2000, marched from Trafalfar Square to the Japanese Embassy. A police cordon allowed a deputation to
hand to a man servant a resolution protesting against the bombardment of Canton, urging an embargo on petrol to Japan, and a boycott of Japanese goods.
