BOMBING EFFORTS
SPANISH REBELS CLAIM IMPORTANT RESULTS OBSTRUCTION OF VALENCIA HARBOUR. ALICANTE MOLE DAMAGED. (Recd This Day, 10.10 a.m.) SARAGOSSA, June 19. Headquarters claim the success of bombing efforts and assert that large stores of petrol have been burning all the week, and that traffic has been suspended for a fortnight in Valencia Harbour, which is obstructed by sunken vessels, two of which are at the harbour mouth. The mole at Alicante harbour' has been bisected, a munitions factory and powder magazine have been destroyed, also railway stations at Mediodia and Murcia. RAIDS ON BARCELONA. (Recd This Day, 10.10 a.m.) BARCELONA, June 19. Rebel planes bombed Barcelona three times, killing 30 persons and wounding 25. DEFEAT OWNED LACK OF TRAINED OFFICERS. STATEMENT BY THE SPANISH PREMIER. MADRID. June 19. M. Negrin, Premier of Republican Spain, said in a broadcast speech today: “Oux - soldiers retreat in the face of irresistible force, but will not surrender. The principal reason fox' oui' defeat is lack of trained officers, but by reorganising commands and improving and multiplying oui' training schools we have reserves which will increase with efficient training.”
